Service Work
The Butler County Veterans Service Commission currently employs a staff of State Certified and Nationally Accredited Service Officers who work as advocates for the veterans of Butler County. It is with honor that these Service Officers work to assist the veterans of this county in filing for appropriate Department of Veteran's Affairs benefits. The following is a list of just some of the benefits that our Service Officers can help you file for.

Service Connected Compensation
As defined by the Department of Veterans Affairs: "Disability compensation is a monetary benefit paid to veterans who are disabled by injury or disease incurred or aggravated during active military service. The service of the veteran must have been terminated through separation or discharge under conditions that were other than dishonorable. Disability compensation varies with the degree of disability and the number of dependents, and is paid monthly. The benefits are not subject to federal or state income tax." Please contact our office for more details.

Non-service connected disability pension
As defined by the Department of Veterans Affairs: "Veterans with low incomes who are permanently and totally disabled may be eligible for monetary support if they have 90 days or more of active military service, at least one day of which was during a period of war. The discharge from active duty must have been under conditions other than dishonorable. The permanent and total disability must be for reasons other than the veteran's own willful misconduct." Un-reimbursed medical expenses may reduce countable income for veterans who qualify. "Veterans of a period of war who are aged 65 or older and meet service and income requirements are also eligible to receive a pension, regardless of current physical condition." Please contact our office for more details.

This program is commonly referred to as "Widow's Pension". Please contact our office for more details.

Discharge Upgrades
Each of the military services maintains a discharge review bard with authority to change, correct, or modify discharges or dismissals that are not issued by a sentence of a general court martial. The veteran or, if the veteran is deceased or incompetent, the surviving spouse, next of kin or legal representative may apply for a review of discharge. Please contact our office for more details.

VA Health Benefits
To receive health care through the VA, veterans generally must be enrolled with VA. Although they may apply for enrollment at any time, it is recommended to enroll early as the enrollment process can be lengthy. Since VA health benefits change frequently it is recommended that you consult our office for more specific information.

Home Loan Guarantees
VA loan guaranties are made to service members, veterans, reservists and unmarried surviving spouses for the purchase of homes, condominiums and manufactured homes and for refinancing loans.
