Family Drug Court

Judge David J. Niehaus initiated the Family Drug Court to monitor case plan compliance. The Family Drug Court targets Butler County residents involved in issues of abuse, neglect or dependency with alcohol and/or drug addiction or abuse identified as a primary contributing factor. The initial target group was single mothers who received treatment developed by Sojourner Women's Recovery Services. Married couples and fathers have been added since additional programs have been developed for this population.

The goal of the Family Drug Court is to expedite the reunification of children with their parent(s) in abuse, neglect and dependency cases whereupon parent(s) have identified drug and/or alcohol dependency problems and have complied with court orders, or to expedite permanency in the children's cases whereupon the parent(s) refuse to comply with court orders.

The Family Drug Court Compliance Officer monitors and provides regular oversight to identified drug/alcohol dependent families and/or cases wherein compliance with case plan orders, as adopted after adjudications of dependency, neglect and/or abuse, has been problematic.

The Compliance Officer acts as a facilitator in a collaborative relationship between the Butler County Juvenile Court, the Butler County Children Services Board (BCCSB), the Sojourner Women's Recovery Services, and the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board of Butler County ensuring a timely, comprehensive approach to assisting parent(s) of abuse, neglect and/or dependent cases to maintain compliance with court orders.
