Welcome to the Butler County Bicentennial Site. Butler County Ohio was founded the year of Ohio Statehood, 1803. Butler County is made up of thirteen townships, six cities, and six villages, covering 471 square miles in southwest Ohio. If you have lived here all of your life or you are new to the area a lot of things have changed over the last 200 years. Wander through the hometown news, look at some facts and trivia, learn what Butler County is doing to celebrate its 200th birthday.

The Butler County Bicentennial Committee is busy working toward 14 county specific bicentennial events throughout this year to bring Butler County and Ohio's Bicentennial closer to home. See the calendar for the latest details on all the up and coming events. Become a part of the excitement.

The Ohio Bicentennial efforts are three fold and involve all 88 Ohio Counties;

  • Each of the Ohio Counties have a designated Bicentennial Barn painted with the Bicentennial Logo. This effort started in 1997 and finished in fall of 2002.   • A portable foundry is going to every Ohio County and will create, on site, a 2 foot tall bronze bicentennial bell weighing 250 pounds. Butler County can be a part of the county Bicentennial Bell creation on July 4th and 5th, 2003 at Lakota East High School. www.ohio200.com/bells/
  • Five hundred new Historical Markers have been prepared across the state in recognition of the Ohio Bicentennial. The New Historical Markers found in Butler county are; Black Covered Bridge - Pugh's Mill, Freedom Summer '64 Memorial, and William Holmes McGuffey House.
